How to Download TikTok Stories (2026) — Save Before They Disappear

TikTok Stories work similarly to Instagram Stories — they appear in the creator's profile for 24 hours, then disappear. Unlike regular TikTok videos, Stories do not have a public URL you can copy from the Share menu. Here is what works.

The Challenge With TikTok Stories

Regular TikTok videos have a shareable URL (tiktok.com/@user/video/12345...) that you can paste into a downloader. Stories do not follow the same URL structure — TikTok Stories use an internal API endpoint, not a public video URL, which means most standard downloaders cannot process them.

Method 1 — Screen Record the Story (Most Reliable)

Since TikTok Stories cannot be accessed via standard public URLs, screen recording is the most universally reliable method:

  1. iPhone: Add Screen Recording to Control Center (Settings → Control Center → Screen Recording). Open the TikTok Story and start recording from Control Center.
  2. Android: Pull down quick settings panel → Screen Recorder → Start recording, then open TikTok and view the Story.
⚠️ Screen recordings are lower quality than the original Story file since they capture your screen rather than downloading the source file.

Method 2 — Save Your Own Stories

If you are the creator of the Story, TikTok gives you the option to save it before it expires:

  1. Open your Story while it is still visible
  2. Tap the three dots (···) menu
  3. Select Save to Camera Roll

This saves the original quality video directly to your phone.

Method 3 — Try SaveFromInternet With the Story URL

Some TikTok Stories generate a shareable link. If you tap Share on a Story and get a URL, paste it into SaveFromInternet.com — some story formats are downloadable when a direct URL is available.

Important: Act Fast

TikTok Stories disappear after exactly 24 hours. If a Story you want to save is visible now, do not wait — use screen recording immediately. Once the 24 hours pass, there is no way to retrieve a deleted Story.

💡 For your own TikTok content: always save Stories to your Camera Roll before they expire. TikTok sends a notification when a Story is about to disappear — use that as your reminder to save.
